Fossil Beach
The beach at the end of Pasagshak road contains rich beds
of fossilized mollusks all through the clay walls surrounding the beach.
You do not need any implements to find them.
Some are already exposed and all one need do is brush the dirt off.
Other can be found by brushing away some of the layers of sediment.
Claimjumper found several whole fossilized clams and I found one large
fossilized oyster.
There are no facilities at this beach.
There is also no fee. Find
the area at the very end of Pasagshak road just past the rocket launch area.
Claimjumper also located buffalo tracks leading down to the
beach. We have heard rumors of a
wild herd that roams the area, but did not see it.
There is a fresh water lake adjacent to the beach that likely draws the
buffalo.
This is also a good area to admire wildflowers.
Plenty of lupine and wild geraniums, yellow paintbrush and there was also
a species of yellow flower that we could not identify.
Claimjumper spotted some species of wild orchid a few yards up the road
from the beach.
Be careful not to step too close to the bulb kelp.
They can be vicious!
