Battery Point Trail Haines

This trail is a very easy hike through an amazing old growth forest.  At the end of the trail there is a pebble beach and a terrific point from which to take pictures of Lynn Canal, have a picnic, or go for an exhilarating dip.

To find the trail, head toward the harbor on Haines Highway or Main Street.  Turn right on Front Street, which becomes Beach road where Front and Haines Highway intersect.  Follow this road all the way to the end.  The trailhead picks up where the road ends.

There are no facilities along the trail.  But there is also no cost to use it.

If you cross the beach to the far end there will be some more trails up into a grassy area.  There are clearing up these trails with fire rings.  We saw one large group of people sitting around a fire they had build in one of the open areas roasting marshmallows.

Claimjumper spotted blue huckleberry bushes along the trail side.  Early July was too early to partake, but she estimated early to mid august and the berries would be perfect.  We recommend wearing hiking boots to prevent injury on this trail.  It is heavily rutted by the huge tree roots and can be quite slick and muddy even on sunny days.
