White Mountain Summit Trails
 The
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) maintains this trail system year round.
The trails feature a number of public use cabins that are available by
reservation. Unfortunately, we visited this area before the trails were
useable. In late May, the trails were still quite muddy. Best time
for use would be during the winter (November-April) and summer (mid -June
through August). To hear a recording on current trail conditions, call
(907) 474-2372.
There are several ways to enter the white mountains trails.
We stopped at a parking lot located on the right side of the Elliot Highway as you drive
northwest from Fairbanks out toward Manley Hot Springs. Look for the large BLM sign
(pictured above) at mile 28.
If you decide to use the cabins, you will need to make reservations and pay
for them in advance through the BLM Lands Information Office. Click
here to jump to the BLM's listing for contact information on public use
cabin reservations.
Motor sport use (snowmobiles, ATVs, etc.) are allowed only on some of the
trails. Be sure to study the maps at the trailhead carefully before using
a motorized vehicle.
